The award ceremony of the Martyr Mustafa Cambaz Photography Contest, organized by Yeni Şafak newspaper for the second time this year, was held at Büyük Çamlıca Mosque 1071 Congress and Event Hall.
TBMM Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Albayrak Group Board Chairman Ahmet Albayrak, Albayrak Group Board Deputy Chairman Nuri Albayrak and Yeni Şafak Editor-in-Chief Hüseyin Likoğlu, as well as Mustafa Cambaz's son Alparslan Cambaz and his wife Semra Cambaz and award recipients attended the ceremony held in memory of July 15 martyr Mustafa Cambaz.
The ceremony, presented by TVNET Program Presenter Cüneyt Özdemir, began with the Quran recitation by Alpcan Çelik, the imam of Beşiktaş Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa Mosque.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat stated that Mustafa Cambaz was a lover of Turkey and Istanbul and said, "He fearlessly and bravely took to the streets on the evening of July 15 and surrendered his soul to treacherous bullets in Çengelköy. He was a cheerful and pleasant person. He had bravely set out to support this struggle. Thanks to brave citizens like our brother Mustafa Cambaz, we woke up to a bright morning on July 16." Bolat stated that he had been a colleague with Mustafa Cambaz for 17 years and said, "He would go to every task and run. He was both a journalist and a photographer. He also dealt with technical matters. He loved to feed cats as a sunnah of our Prophet, he would feed cats all around the building and he would not tolerate them. I remember our brother Mustafa Cambaz with mercy and respect. I congratulate all photography lovers who won awards in this valuable competition."
"He left us a very valuable work that is like a title deed of these lands called 'The Grand Mosques of Turkey'"
Yeni Şafak Editor-in-Chief Hüseyin Likoğlu also stated that Cambaz was a distinguished person who was passionate about photography, devoted himself to his profession and said, "Mustafa Cambaz, who photographed 118 grand mosques in various provinces and districts of Türkiye with great effort and sacrifices until the day he was martyred, and compiled them in a book called 'The Grand Mosques of Turkey', combined his passion for photography with his interest in history and left us a very valuable work that is like a title deed of these lands."
Likoğlu stated that they will take this competition organized in Cambaz's name further every year and make it the most prestigious award in the media world and said, "We will commemorate Mustafa Cambaz with such a meaningful competition, we will never forget him and we will never let him be forgotten."
"Our colleagues continue to work in the most difficult places in the world to engrave their visual memories in people"
The Competition's Selection Committee Chairman, Anadolu Agency Visual News Editor-in-Chief Fırat Yurdakul, stated that while evaluating the works participating in the competition, they tried to look through Mustafa Cambaz's eyes as well as their general principles and visual capabilities.
Yurdakul pointed out that Cambaz had carved his name into the history of the press with both his work and his courage and love of country, and noted the following:
"Today, many of our brave colleagues like him continue to work in the most difficult places in the world to engrave the truth in people's visual memories, like AA photojournalist Ali Jadallah, who lost 9 members of his family in Israeli bombs in the past weeks, or AA cameraman Muhammed Alul, who lost 4 of his children in Israeli bombings just a few days ago... When Mustafa Cambaz ran to the squares without any fear on the evening of July 15, two things were on his mind, just like his other colleagues. The first is to stand by the truth, and the second is to document the truth as a reporter."
